Operation Full Tummy, Sound Mind

Head-to-Toe: We’ve Got You Covered

Bare Essentials
Initiative I – Operation Full Tummy, Sound Mind
No mother or child should have to worry about the source of their next meal. This initiative aims to ease those worries by ensuring tiny bellies (and those caring for them) are full!
Sponsor 3 mothers with a year of fresh produce, delivered monthly. Total cost: $4,140
Nalls Produce is a farmer’s market located in Alexandria, Virginia that offers a monthly subscription service for fresh, in-season produce sourced from local farms.
In 2026, Summer’s Sunshine would like to sponsor 3 local mothers with a year’s worth of monthly produce service at Nalls Produce.
Cost transparency: Monthly subscription – $115; Full year of service – $1,380
Provide 3 monthly grocery store gift card sponsorships. Total cost: $3,600
Summer’s Sunshine is mighty, but small. While we would love to provide produce sponsorships to many families, current sizing and funding capabilities won’t allow it. In spite of this, we would like to offset the cost of monthly grocery bills for three (3) different single mothers facing adversity each month with one (1) $100 gift card per family to a grocery store of their choice.
Establish food and formula pantry. Total cost: TBD
This is an ongoing project for Summer’s Sunshine that likely won’t be fully realized in 2026 (we would be thrilled if it could!). This year, our goal is to lay the foundation for making this goal a reality in 2027 – this begins with finding a retail or office location in northern Virginia that can house non-perishable food staples and snacks in addition to formula and baby food.
As physical spaces are reviewed and more information is gathered, costs will be updated to reflect leasing prices and other requirements necessary to fitting the space for supporting food storage.
Initiative II – Head-to-Toe: We’ve Got You Covered
Season-appropriate clothing can be a year-long challenge for families struggling to make ends meet. Summer’s Sunshine aims to remove barriers to the comfort that growing bodies deserve.
Winter Coat Drive. Total cost: $2,500
In early Fall 2026, we will begin purchasing and accepting donations for new coats and other winter items like scarves and hats to distribute to at-risk children in the DMV area in an effort to ensure our local children are prepared for the harsh winter ahead! Summer’s Sunshine aims to reach at least 50 children.
Cost transparency: With winter coats averaging around $50 per item, the purchase of 50 coats would equal roughly $2,500.
Initiative III – Bare Necessities
New and expecting mothers often face real financial strain covering basic baby essentials like diapers, wipes, and formula. Our program provides these necessities directly to families in need — easing that burden so every baby gets the healthy start they deserve.
Basic Essentials Sponsorship for 3 New Mothers. Total cost: $4,500
Caring for a new baby can be expensive, especially when doing it alone. Pampers, wipes, bottles, car seats, cribs, strollers – the costs can add up quickly! Summer’s Sunshine wants to cover these essentials for three (3) expecting or new mothers so they have one less thing to worry about and can focus on staying safe and healthy.
Cost transparency: $1,500 per expecting/new mother to cover a 6-month supply of diapers and wipes, onesies and socks for months 1-12, bottles, manual breast pump (if needed), a car seat, a crib, and stroller.
